You’re Unique - Build something that reflects You! Custom built furniture and cabinetry makes a statement about you and your creativity. I make one of a kind, long lasting, solid hardwood furniture pieces which are professionally made and finished. Imagine selecting beautiful century old hardwood grain, designing the shape and function, then having it built to highlight the glistening grain with an ultra smooth near waterproof finish to highlight your uniquely designed and custom built table.

My approach is to work closely with you to understand what you need, select the ideal piece of wood & grain, then design the project with you, for shape and form, and then I professionally create a beautiful and high quality keepsake for your home.

Over 100 years ago the Wichmann family made furniture with the passion to bring out the natural beauty of the wood and craft beautiful pieces for a client’s home. The process started with custom quality pieces and then as demand grew, the business scaled up and went something like this:

1. Make various high quality pieces of furniture in quantity and unique commissioned keepsakes as special orders.

2. Buy wholesale furniture from other furniture makers and / or resale refurbished pieces.

3. Inventory and display all the furniture accumulated in a sizable furniture store.

4. Hold periodic “sales” on holidays and store anniversaries to move the inventory with ads in the local paper.

5. Repeat.

The vast majority of furniture stores today no longer make any furniture themselves and very few are personalized. They go directly to the wholesale and mass produced world markets to gather inventory for their stores. There are a few smaller stores and consignment shops that do sell carefully handmade pieces of local makers on commission.

My approach is a bit different than the past and much smaller scale. I want you to have a Unique and Custom Built furniture piece or a custom renovation in your home. A custom piece of furntiure that you can help select the ingredients and shape the final form. Each piece is a one of a kind keepsake, especially made for you. This might be a unique coffee table as a wedding present for that special couple, or a beautiful solid hardwood dining room table for your expanding family, or a counter top for your kitchen renovation. My custom Carpentry is done much the same way ... to uniquely create and build what you need … you name it, I will work closely with you at every step and stage of your project.

I have over 30 years of woodworking and carpentry experience, mostly building for our family and renovating houses. I loved to build with my grandfather early on and my first project with wood was a simple sailboat we did and to my astonishment, it actually “sailed away” on lake Winnebago in Wisconsin. Well someone ended up with a nice little sailboat! I had 6 years of woodshop in Jr-Sr High School learning power tool, wood carving, and wood finishing skills from a master woodworker we had as a shop teacher. I made all kinds of bookcases, a couple wood carvings (one shown below), a pine jewelry box for my mother, and a walnut jewelry box for my father. I was a carpenter’s assistant during college breaks and during summers learning key building and carpentry skills. I’ve been renovating and improving homes ever since. I actually love to build things for the first time given the unique challenges and problem solving that is needed. If you think about, most everything done by a custom woodworker or builder IS for the first time. For the workmanship to have very high quality and integrity, it’s just a simple matter of experience and knowledge built up over the years, and that ongoing quest for improvement and growth.
